Dani Pedrosa has decided it is too soon to make a comeback at this weekend's Malaysia MotoGP after undergoing collarbone surgery and is now hoping to return for the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks time.
The Spaniard fell during a practice session before the Japanese MotoGP last Friday, suffering a multiple facture to his left collarbone, and underwent surgery in Barcelona on Saturday.
"Pedrosa has pushed all of his options to return this weekend... but has finally been forced, given the condition of the recent injury to his left collarbone, to put off his return to the competition," his team Honda Repsol said.
"Now, his sights are set on the Australian Grand Prix, which will be held on Sunday 17 October at the Phillip Island circuit.
"The condition of his collarbone, the bruises he suffered in the fall and the lack of strength in his left arm and shoulder have forced him to take the difficult decision."
Pedrosa is second in the world championship and is the only person who can catch Spanish compatriot Jorge Lorenzo.
Yamaha rider Lorenzo has a 69-point advantage at the top and with 25 points for a win and only four races left, could secure his first MotoGP world title this weekend.
