MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - One person died, another missing, and thousands of families were displaced after heavy rains triggered flash floods in the Philippines, police said.
In central Philippine province of Mindoro, at least 8,148 families were displaced in the townships of Pinamalayan and Soccoro when flood waters submerged their areas on Saturday following heavy downpour that started Friday, police said.
One local resident was drowned and died, said Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz, a police spokesman.
In southern Philippines, ten houses were destroyed Saturday and a two-year old girl went missing in the floods that hit the city of Cagayan de Oro.
The local disaster control department is closely monitoring the situation and preparing for mass evacuation of the affected residents if the situation worsens.
