MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian-Excelroof outclassed National U with its power game, cruising to a 25-13, 25-18, 25-14 romp to clinch the first berth in the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.
Their four-game streak snapped by a resurgent Adamson side last Thursday, the Lady Stags vented their ire on the Bulldogs, whom they dominated from start to finish to formalize their stint into the next round with a 5-1 card.
Earlier, the Lady Falcons pounced on an erratic St. Benilde squad in the third set to pound out a 25-23, 25-11, 25-23 victory, their fourth against two losses as they joined the Stags in the next round of the season-ending tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
The Lady Bulldogs slid to 2-3 but remained in sixth place, one game ahead of seventh running Perpetual Help (1-4).
St. Benilde, meanwhile, took its fifth straight defeat and on the brink of early elimination again.
Meanwhile, the Adamson-St. Benilde game will be aired at 2 p.m. today on NBN-4 while the SSC-NU match will be telecast Tuesday.
Thai import Jeng Bualee fired 19 attacks, the last wrapping up the 64-minute contest while Joy Benito added seven kills and wound up with 10 points as they spearheaded SSC’s charge over a hapless NU team that sputtered on its offense and could only put a token defense.
Guest player Denise Santiago led NU with just nine hits as Mervic Mangui continued to struggle with her game after churning out a 14-point norm in their first three games.
