ATENEO de Manila University defeated a pesky National University (NU) squad, 25-16, 25-21, 24-26, 25-23, on Sunday to move to solo third place in the quarterfinal round of Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan City. The Lady Eagles completed a huge come back from 20-23 down in the fourth set after scoring a blazing 5-0 burst to close out the game and enhance their Final 4 bid.
With a 6-3 (win-loss) card, Ateneo moved up to solo third behind joint leaders San Sebastian and Adamson University, which tote identical 7-2 cards heading into the last three play dates of the single round robin, carry-over quarters.NU fell to 2-7 and will need to sweep its last three games and hope that Far Eastern University and Lyceum of the Philippines University will not win more than five games to force a playoff for the fourth and last semifinals berth.
Surasawadee Boonyuen posted 21 kills for a 22-point output while Gretchen Ho and Fille Cainglet tossed in 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Lady Eagles, who also drew 10 kills from Cainglet.
