VETERAN Patrick Cabahug exploded with 30 points as Misamis Oriental escaped with an 85-82 win over ANI-FCA to claim the third semifinal berth of the Tournament of the Philippines at the Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City. Cabahug, averaging only 12.2 points in the elimination round, suddenly caught fire in all angles to lead the Meteors to the semifinals of the tourney jointly organized by the Philippine Basketball League and the Liga Pilipinas.
Thus, the Meteors, owned by Gov. Oscar Moreno, joined Treston-Laguna and Ascof Lagundi in the next round starting Aug. 31.
They will be facing the Cough Busters in a best-of-three semifinals series next week with the Meteors hosting the first two games in Cagayan de Oro City.
ML Kwarta Padala-Cebu, which topped the elimination leg, tries to wrap the fourth semis slot, when it play host to MP Pacman Gensan Warriors on Wednesday at the New Cebu City Coliseum.
“We know what Patrick can do but this win is a fruit of good team work and our hard one week preparation. We were determined to win this game and I think the players showed that in this game,” said Meteors coach Jun Noel.
After Cabahug scored 17 points, capped by three triples, the Meteors rolled to nine-point lead, 64-55, which later ballooned to 72-57.
