THE Philippine National Police believes that the unidentified person who called Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza may be one of the reasons why the dismissed policemen went on a rampage.
The PNP is trying to establish whether the caller had said something to Mendoza that angered the latter since according to Police Chief Supt. Rodolfo Magtibay, the fallen policeman had described as “garbage” the Ombudsman’s letter assuring him that his case will be reviewed.
Another factor that probably forced Mendoza to go on a shooting spree was when he saw his brother-policeman, SPO2 Gregorio Mendoza, being arrested by Manila police.
Magtibay said Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim ordered Gregorio’s arrest for violating Article 267 or for conspiring to commit illegal detention.
“Earlier at 2 p.m., he tried to penetrate the police cordon and tried to approach the bus, carrying his firearm. My instruction was to escort Gregorio to the General Assignment Section,” Magtibay said.
He added that Lim believed that Gregorio conspired with Rolando in staging the hostage-taking.
