After successfully defending its Shakey's V-League title, five-time champions University of Santo Tomas will skip Season 7’s second conference slated to open on July 11.
UST coach Cesael Delos Santos said he decided not to join the season-ending conference to give the Tigresses enough time to rest and concentrate with their studies before they start their preparation in their bid to defend the UAAP crown.
"My players need to rest. We are competing non-stop since October and they need to focus on their studies," said Delos Santos.
In the last eight months, the Tigresses have won four straight titles in various tournaments – the V-League, National University Games and UAAP.
Last month, they defeated San Sebastian in the V-League's first conference finals to duplicate La Salle’s feat of winning three straight titles during the 2005-06 season.
This will be UST's third time to take a leave of absence in the league after the first conference of the 2006 and 2008 seasons.
National University and Perpetual Help received invitation from V-League organizers to join the second conference.
San Sebastian, Ateneo, Adamson, Lyceum, St. Benilde and Far Eastern University are the returning teams in the second conference.
