Wade Barrett def. Mark Henry
It was almost difficult to recognize Wade Barrett without The Nexus at his side. The leader of the outlaw group stood alone prior to his match against Mark Henry. Per the GM’s orders, Barrett’s fellow Nexus members were forbidden from interfering. Not to worry. Barrett proved he is a force in his own right by defeating The World’s Strongest Man rather convincingly.
Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov def. William Regal & Zack Ryder
William Regal may be running out of allies. The Englishman enlisted The Long Island Loudmouth, Zack Ryder, in his continuing efforts to conquer Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov. And again, the Brit failed in his quest to smash the Italian/Russian coalition, who prevailed with their tag team offensive.
WWE Champion Sheamus def. Evan Bourne; R-Truth stymied an attack by The Miz
WWE Champion Sheamus might have scraped by in his Steel Cage Match the night before against John Cena thanks to meddling of The Nexus, but that wasn’t about to stop him from proclaiming his dominance.
The Irishman boasted to the WWE Universe and announced that he and Nexus had reached a truce. During the proceedings, The Miz decided to pay a visit. The newly-minted Mr. Money in the Bank warned Sheamus that he’s liable to cash in his title opportunity at any moment. Before the Irishman could leave the ring, though, Raw’s anonymous GM chimed in, arranging a match for Sheamus against Evan Bourne.
With Miz ready to pounce at ringside, Sheamus cautiously dismantled his high-flying opponent. After the bell rang, however, Mr. Money in the Bank ambushed the WWE Champion, clubbing him with his briefcase and summoning a referee. Rather than commence a match, Miz instead begged off when R-Truth charged the ring. Truth, who was sidelined from Raw’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match thanks to Miz, scuffled with The “Cleveland Screamer,” who quickly snagged his briefcase and made himself scarce. In retaliation for Miz’s attack weeks ago, Truth essentially cost his rival what might have been a WWE Title
Eve def. Maryse
For Eve, it was time for redemption. One night after losing a Divas Title Match to Alicia Fox, the Latina lovely seemed eager to prove herself against longtime tormentor, Maryse. With Ted DiBiase looking on from ringside, Eve capitalized on a questionable call by the referee to win the bout. Afterward, as DiBiase and his “protector” Maryse argued with the ref, John Morrison swooped into the ring and landed Starship Pain on The “Fortunate Son” before exiting a satisfied man.
John Cena called for a summit with The Nexus
After The Nexus robbed him of a WWE Championship the night before at Money in the Bank, John Cena decided it was time to settle matters once and for all. With that in mind, Cena called for a summit with his tormentors, telling the WWE Universe, “if you can’t beat ‘em …”
The Nexus attacked Edge and Chris Jericho
Eleven years. That’s how long Edge and Chris Jericho have been trading blows and foiling one another’s championship quests. After losing to Randy Orton in a Triple Threat Match to determine the No. 1 contender to the WWE Title earlier in the night, the pair had had enough. They bickered back and forth, each asserting that The Nexus would ally with them against the other. To settle the dispute, The Nexus emerged, but instead of discussing partnerships, they attacked The Ultimate Opportunist. After a gleeful Jericho savored the thrashing, the seven deadly sinners then turned on him, too, leaving him incapacitated on the mat.

In the wake of last night’s controversial WWE Championship Steel Cage Match, in which Sheamus retained over John Cena thanks to interference from The Nexus, Raw’s anonymous General Manager got right down to business. The GM arranged a Triple Threat Match involving Randy Orton, Edge and Chris Jericho with the victor earning a title match at SummerSlam.
With so much animosity ricocheting throughout the ring, any chance for an alliance was all but hopeless. As such, each Superstar was forced to create their own breaks. Which is precisely what The Viper managed to do. After an incredible display of athleticism, Orton glimpsed his opportunity. He struck Mr. Vocabulary with an RKO and turned around and quickly nailed The Rated-R Superstar with the same medicine, pinning Edge for the victory and earning himself a WWE Title Match at SummerSlam.
