The last time Adamson defeated Far Eastern University, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has just spent her first year as the country's Chief Executive and the Philippines last used an all-pro PBA squad in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.
It took the Falcons eight years to duplicate that feat, as the current Adamson squad squeezed out a pulsating 64-63 win over FEU to end the Tamaraws' winning rampage in the 73rd UAAP men's basketball tournament on Thursday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Eric Camson scored the winning basket after tipping in an Alex Nuyles missed lay-up to hand the Falcons their sixth win in eight games for solo second place behind the 7-1 mark of the previously undefeated Tamaraws.
More importantly, the win serves as a confidence-booster for the San Marcelino-based squad strengthening their bid of returning to the Final Four since earning a first semis berth in 2006.
Aldrech Ramos, receiving a pass from a streaking RR Garcia, pushed FEU up for the last time at 63-64 with 6.8 seconds left in the game clock.
After Ramos' basket, Adamson coach Leo Austria called a time out to map out a final game-winning play.
Roider Cabrera issued an inbounds pass to Nuyles, who split the FEU defense and went straight for a lay up. He missed the lay up but Camson was there to tip in the ball for a 64-63 count 2.2 ticks left.
With no time outs left, Garcia threw a half-court heave that hit the rim as the buzzer sounded.
Nuyles had 14 points, five rebounds and one steal to lead Adamson, which last defeated FEU on July 28, 2002.
The Tamaraws led for most part of the game but was held by the Falcons' defense to a single field goal in the fourth period.
