MANILA (PNA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) said teachers cannot call President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III by his moniker “P-Noy” even if the latter himself has said he preferred the public to call him that way.
“Please be advised that all official communications, collaterals and documents bearing the name of the President of the Philippines should be addressed as President Benigno S. Aquino III,” DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro said in DepEd Order 98 which he issued last August 23 but was only posted at the department’s website at www.deped.gov.ph Tuesday night.
Luistro issued the order for “strict compliance” to DepEd undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, bureau directors, directors of services, centers and heads of units, regional directors, schools division and city superintendents, heads of public and private elementary and secondary schools, and chiefs of divisions.
Shortly after his proclamation as the country’s 15thPresident, Aquino said he preferred to be called P-Noy.
Media outlets both in the print and broadcast sector have been using the moniker in their reports.
At the same time, Luistro also issued another order (DepEd Order No. 97) mandating that he be formally addressed as Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC.
“Please be advised that all official communications, collateral and documents bearing the name of the Secretary of the Department of Education should be addressed as Bro. Armin A. Luistro, FSC., “ Luistro said in his order issued in the same date as the order on the President’s moniker was made.
Luistro is a La Sallian brother and former president of the De La Salle University.
