MANILA PHILIPPINES- Rather than blask in the glory of their masterful in Game1 victory against Far Eastern University in the UAAP Championship,Ateneo coach Norman Black warned his boys of tha tougher tasked ahead.
"We know it's only one Game.It takes two games to win championship series in the UAAP,Black said after the Blue Eagles hacked out a surprisingly easy 72-49 routs of the Tamaraws in game 1 at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday to move on the thereshold of a completing rare "three peat"
Game2 of their best off three series is scheduled on Thursday in the same venue with Black expecting the Tamaraws to throw everything they've got to stop them from completing a three peat
"Were happy and excited, but we are not to over confident at this points because we know FEU could bounce back," Black said.
Using a strong start,The Blue Eagles turned what was expected to be a street figth into a stroll in the par.leading by as many as 26 points en route to the victory fashioned out before some 17.000 fans
The game was virtually over after the first quarter as the Eagles closed out the period with a zissling 17-2 windup - thanks to their transition attack that had the inexperience Tamaraws reeling on the ropes. It was the first time FEU entered the finals in a longtime.
The surprise entry of the rookie bigman JP Erram in the first quarter also worked wonders for the Ateneo as Erram held his own ground against FEU touted bigmen Aldrech Ramos and Reil Cervantes, blocking five shots then forced his opponents to make tough angled attempts inside.
That translated to numerous transition points for the Eagles, who showed no let up in the next three quarters to the Deligth of the Blue faithfuls.
This was probably our best game of the year and hopefully we could a little bit better on Thursday," added Black," who is seeking his first three peat .since winning one as a PBA coach with San Miguel in 1989
The players were just as excited as their coach
"Kinakabahan ako nang simula nung game."Erram said"Peor nung pinasok ako paraang nawala nang kunti lalo nang lumang kami.Doon yun lumabas yung confidence ko na feeling ko mananalo kami".
