MANILA, Philippines—The MP Pacman Gensan Warriors spoiled the home debut of the Mandaue City Landmasters with a thrilling 68-65 victory Tuesday night in the fourth leg of the Tournament of the Philippines at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Center.
The Warriors of boxing hero and Saranggani Rep. Manny Pacquiao rallied from a 14-point second-quarter deficit to score their first victory on the road.
Misamis Oriental overwhelmed struggling ANI-FCA, 96-72, in the first game of the tournament jointly organized by the Philippine Basketball League and Liga Pilipinas.
“We didn’t let up even with our big lead,” said Misamis coach Jun Noel.
The Warriors, despite making just six of their 26 foul shots, turned their game up a notch in the fourth period, where they outscored the Landmasters, 22-8.
“I just told them to keep on trying hard,” said GenSan coach Fean Del Rosario.
Misamis and GenSan could meet in the finals with wins over Mandaue and ANI-FCA, respectively, last night. Cedelf P. Tupas
