MAPUA guard Allan Mangahas was named Accel-Filoil NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week after guiding the Cardinals to a pair of impressive victories last week in Season 86.
In the last two games, Mangahas averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, four assists and 1.5 steals per outing to receive the weekly honors backed by Terrilicious meat products and bestowed by a group of sportswriters covering the oldest and one of the most prestigious leagues in the land.
Now toting a 5-2 record in solo third place, Mapua beat Emilio Aguinaldo College, 82-68, and College of Saint Benilde in overtime, 65-63.
Mangahas, the 2008 Rookie of the Year, collected a personal season-high of 25 points, on top on four rebounds, three assists and three steals, as the Cardinals survived a tough challenge over the battle weary Blazers.
With St. Benilde holding a one-point lead, Mangahas drilled in a go-ahead triple for Mapua to take a 63-61 advantage at 1:29 mark of the extra period.
Mangahas registered five rebounds and a team-high five assists in the Cardinals’ rout of the Generals.
